Tseng, S.-W., Tseng, W.-Y.
English Abstract This study uses service experience insight method to examine time disorientation cognitive impairment in elderly persons with dementia. The aims were to improve the sense of time orientation in elderly persons with dementia by observation and by analyzing the problem of deactivation of demented elderly, to reorganize service experience insights, and to put forward product design considerations for improving perception of time in the elderly with dementia. A field observation and interview were conducted on each elderly subject with dementia in an elderly care center in Yunlin. A target personage was then constructed and venation was used to check the behavior model and to mark the barrier and demand points. Expert focus groups were then conducted which put forward the product design requirements and guidelines. There were five requirements: "increasing familiarity", "increasing the sense of anticipation through interaction", "adding time reminders", "tabletop gardening activities" and "increasing concentration power". From these requirements, the product design framework and target design were compiled and developed. Daily activities were combined with seasonal information images and improved clock design complemented by horticultural elements in tabletop games to improve the time perception of elderly with dementia. Keywords:dementia, time orientation, contextual inquiry, five work models
